Hello. I am a 20-something from Philadelphia who moved to Central PA not too long ago. I’m a girl who likes to dress-up, loves the arts, and likes to check “to-dos” off of my bucket list.
Since moving here, I’ve noticed there aren’t too many people my age in the area. I am writing this blog as a way of sharing my discoveries with people/locals who are looking for new things to do. Hopefully, I’ll start a discussion and learn from you what there is to do. Some say there is nothing to do here, but I don’t believe it..
Ah! I’ve experienced the same thing! I’m transplanted from Baltimore and have found that not a lot of events/entertainment/shopping are geared towards our age group. I can really relate. I’ve added you to my blog roll – great blog – good luck!
Steph from LovingCentralPA.com
Oh thanks! I’m glad you like it. You’re the first person I’ve gotten feedback from. I’ve added you to my blogroll too.
Hey there!
Just came across your blog b/c we were looking up Keely’s Bakery. 🙂
We’re 30 somethings that live in Danville and have found some fun things to do. 🙂
Look forward to reading your blog!
Great! Thanks so much. I do tend to focus on the Susqehanna Valley. Enjoy 🙂
And yeah, feel free to throw out ideas/suggestions for things to do.
Welcome to Central PA! As a fellow female 20-something living in good ol’ Pennsyltucky, it’s great to hear about someone taking advantage of the somewhat elusive positives of small town life. Let me know if you ever want company on any of your adventures (my email is mikapa89@uplink.net).
Have a great day! 🙂
Thanks MIchelle! I’ll keep you in the loop. What kinds of things do you like to do?
Anything outdoorsy or active really (hiking, biking, swimming – err doggy paddling haha), dancing (albeit horribly), traveling (wish I could afford to do it more often), reading, watching movies with friends, and I’d like to get into cooking but right now egg sandwiches are just fine 🙂 So basically, I like all the usual things you would expect someone to say haha. I wish I liked something outlandish that would make me stand out but unfortunately I just haven’t found my niche yet. What about you?
Yes, I’d say all of those things too, except for cooking…and I only like biking on flat land. haha. I like to dance, go to shows and museums, boating, visiting historical places, boating, etc. Right now, I am reading “The Help” and watching a lot of Real Housewives on Bravo haha.
(typo with boating written twice!)
Haha I thought you just really liked boating. There’s a women’s kayak outing (ok not really “boating” but boatish) this saturday at Pine Creek that I’m hoping to check out but I have a feeling it’s going to be for experienced kayakers only so that might not work out so well but we shall see. What kind of shows do you like? Historical visits and museums are always fun. I love to imagine living in whatever time period the historical place represents, especially when it comes to the civil war, but I think that’s just because I secretly wish I was Scarlett O’Hara…except less bitchy haha. What is “The Help” about? I’m always looking for a good book recommendation! The last good one that I read was “The Winter of Our Disconnect” which was all about the effects of technology on our social and emotional wellbeing. It sounds boring but it was actually pretty interesting! I’ve never seen the Real Housewives but I definitely went through a long Desperate Housewives phase, followed by Sex and the City, and now…well now I gave up cable for budgetary purposes so I just watch movies I get from the library, but when I have cable again someday I’ll have to check out Bravo. So what are your plans for the weekend? Anything blog inspiring?
Thanks for the info on the women’s kayaking outing. I am actually visiting my Dad for Father’s Day weekend and will be kayaking with him.
The Winter of Our Disconnect sounds really good! I’ll have to put that on my list. I just finished “The Help.” The movie with Emma Stone is coming out in mid-August; it’s a popular historical fiction piece right now that takes place in Mississippi during the Civil Rights movement. I definitely recommend reading it. It really brings to life the southern lifestyle of the 1960s.
30 something here… we moved to Harrisburg in ’09 and have had a blast here! While it’s not a young town there is still much to be done!
Hello! Yeah, I should check out livingsocial.com for Harrisburg for more ideas as to what to discover.
Just found your site. I have a fashion blog as well and am from central pa. Do you ride horses. I see one in your banner. I love riding.
Yay for fashion blogs & riding 🙂
Welcome to Central PA! I lived in Center City Philly for years. I miss it. However, moving to Central PA was well worth the whoopie pies and scrapple.
Very cool. I can’t say I have given whoopie pies or a scrapple a try. I am pretty sure I’ll never give scrapple a try, lol. Thanks for saying hi!
Hi there, just found this site. I’m a twenty-something too, and I’m a transplant from Virginia. Even though I’ve been here for over two years now, I tend to feel like there’s nothing to do and no one to go anywhere with aside from my husband. Looking forward to reading your blog!
Hiya! Just found your blog while looking up things to go in Danville / Bloomsburg / Lewisburg. Definitely following!
Hi Leena! Thanks for comment. It’s always nice to hear from local readers! You message gave me the encouragement to get back to blogging. It’s been awhile! Thanks!
Hi guys and gals,
I’m in my late twenties and have spent most of my life in central PA other than a brief year in philly and another 3 spent in south central PA. I stumbled upon this blog when I was investigating Jet Ski Shops in the Selinsgrove area. This area is full of history (native american, civil war, revolutionary war, railroads) and most people don’t know that Northumberland made a run for the state capitol back in the day.
Many will say there is not much to do in the area… but if you hit the grass roots of the area, every day can be filled with fun and exciting adventures. I recently sold my kayak to upgrade into jetskis and that will just be a few hours of fun. There are tons of local wineries and pubs around the area that will gladly give you a tour of their facilities. The brew pubs take great honor if you ask them to see their vats of finest brews. Make sure you go to the Shikellamy Lookout… you can reach it via 11-15 North… Just north of Selinsgrove. Very nice state park facility that will amaze you with it’s view of Sunbury, Northumberland, and the Susqueahannas Branches coming together.
The best local activity we found last summer was Lake Tobias which is about a 35 min drive from selinsgrove and has the COOLEST animals in the state unless you want to go to a boring zoo. Another great trip is the town of Hershey PA. We took a tour of the town learning about the man who made the M&M(not Milton Hershey) and saw their great school known as Milton Hershey High. Hershey has an amusement park, facilities for concerts, sporting events the factory for chocolate and shopping outlets for the ladies. Not many can say they made their own hershey’s chocolate bar… but this guy has!!! At 29 I still brag to kids and adults that I did it… and I even kept the wrapper.
I’m glad I tripped over this blog and will assist all of you in having a fun summer. My email is dubstar311@yahoo.com if you have any comments, questions, or just need ideas for a fun filled day. I’m planning on taking the summer off to “adventure” in the area and will add what I can to your blog.
Great Idea in starting the blog…
Thanks Dustin. I didn’t know that Northumberland tried to be the capitol of PA, very interesting. I also like your mention of the river. The summer really is the best season in central PA, I think. Access to the river and many state parks is key.
